On August 4, 2022, our first tour stop took place at the Northwest Train Station as part of the Vienna Chamber of Labor’s ” Summer in the City “ program to spread the word about our initiative and the issues involved.
Through our fairplay tour stations, global structures and interrelationships – and their connection to sport – can be put into a broader context: Globalization, economic South-North linkages, gender relations, migration, human rights violations or social injustice. For the tour, our workshop leaders are mobile throughout Austria to visit regions and work with groups that are otherwise difficult to reach. Thus, fairplay uses a proactive approach in youth work by reaching out and initiating first contacts with kids and teens.
The initiative “Our Game for Human Rights” intends to use the big amount of publicity of sports and sportevents, in particular by using the broad impact of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022, as a medium to raise awareness for development policy contexts and to realize global justice and a culture of human rights. Through various activities, children and adolescents are made aware of issues concerning developmental contexts and are introduced to actions which aim to raise their awareness of the importance of human rights – especially in the field of sport.
