Sports inspire people all over the world. Millions of peoples watch major sport events such as the World Cup and the Olympic Games. Subsequently, sport events have become a billion dollar business. However, human rights often fall behind. For example, the exploitation of migrant workers or the forced relocation of local communities occurs in the context of sport events.
The webinar, which is offered in cooperation with Amnesty International Austria and the fairplay initiative, tries to higlight the connections between human rights and sport. On the one hand, the situation in Austria will be adressed and, on the other, major international events and their impact – for example the upcoming soccer World Cup in Qatar or the Olympic Games – will be discussed. Furthermore, we will talk about possible solutions to the current challenges.
Hanna Stepanik and Kurt Wachter will share their expertise on the reciprocal effects of Sports and Human Rights.
